Description

I'm trying to get back on track, after one month of not drawing. I'm working right now on next page of Promise. :D

More or less a redraw of this: Alexander is curious by StrixVanAllen I like the original, but I've always felt that it didn't convey my vision very well. I exchanged the ladybug for a butterfly because the ladybug would be too small for what I had in mind.

For those who don't know, Alexander is my favourite vampire OC (among the OCs created by me, I mean).

Alexander (or Alex) lives in a world in which magic is hard to come by, the same in which Diego and Cristina live. Compared with Bram & Vlad's world, in which people can do quite flashy spells (hell, the Belmonts can create a nuke-grade explosion from scratch), spells in Alex's world are laughable underpowered (for the most part, anyway). As a result, things that are common place on B&V-verse are super-hard or even impossible for Alex and company.

One of those common place things are vampires having children. In B&V-verse, it requires a spell and a ridicularly large blood stash to be consumed by the mother, but it can be done. In Alex's world, it's prohibitive. Or, at least, it was. Some vampires, doing unspeakable things, were able to gain the power to absorb energy through telepathy, just like psychic vampires do. That way, their powers weren't limited by the amount of blood they can get, but by how many people they can bite and psychically link themselves to.

Alex's parents were this kind of vampire. They hated each other, and Alex's father impregnated his mother during a rape (charming) and let the child develop out of morbid curiosity of what kind of monstrosity could be the spawn of two vampires. She died on childbirth (apparently more out of spite than because she couldn't survive). Well, that is the very short version. There are tons of Things happening during all this.

Basically, everyone was a bit aprehensive at first. The child of two vampires? Hellspawn! Then, he was born and people saw that he was a harmless and painfully cute blond baby, but they were still a little worried about what the son of two bloodthirsty psychopats (literal and figuratively) would grow up to be.

He grew up to be the sweetest person alive, that's what.

First of all, as befits a literal Renaissance man (more or less, he was born in 1522), he loves all things sciencey, particularly Astronomy. He also 'collects' animals by drawing them and their interesting features in his notebooks. Since he was born in 1500's Brazil, with the country's full blown biodiversity into play, let's just say that he brought to himself the ultimate pokémon challenge.

But what has ever confounded people until modern times is his life philosophy. He is absolutely convinced that, if you have to harm someone is some way (even by telling a lie), you are doing it wrong. He is not just technically a pacifist. He's an absolute pacifist with a life goal of making it possible for a society in which everyone can coexist without harming each other. For now, he only has his prototype city, Belle Night, a pacifist city in which all beings are welcome, but his ultimate dream is that all world is like this.

You might be wondering how a vampire can be a true pacifist, since they necessarily harm someone everytime they feed. Alex took care of that in his own special way. I won't say because it's a small spoiler of his book.

The book involving Alex and Rose is a romance, peppered with Alex's existential dilemmas. At first, he is not even convinced that he is a vampire, because he is so different from other vampires.

And now you know why I love to write him.
