...or, rather, two someones.

It's easy to forget that Liberty, Equality and Fraternity were supposed to be an inseparable trio. Can't have one without the other, or what would be the point?

Something to have in mind for the next "are they taking alway my freedom?" scandal of the day.

(I'll put in the "ask spiritism" folder because I'm using characters from there, but it isn't really an ask. Or a spiritist statement. Just my two cents on the matter.)

...what?

Seriously, people use "SJW" for so many things those days that I don't even know what it means anymore.

You do know that this strip has ANYTHING to do with sexism, and that I only picked "blonde jokes" because it's a stupid problem compared with the ones that Liberty pointed, right? (And one that can be more properly discussed adding equality and fraternity in the equation, instead of using just freedom arguments, at that, but mostly because it's stupid.)

To put it as simply as I can, an SJW is the colloquial term used to describe a person who views minor transgressions of individuals in society as evidence of some grand conspiracy or cultural trend of hatred and/or oppression.

For instance, people making jokes that are insensitive. In SJW land, that's due cause to get someone fired from their job, or ostracize them from society, or direct physical violence at.

You know, instead of focusing on real problems like, let me just read a few from this comic I read recently:
Corporate corruption, unjust persecution, social issues, crumbling infrastructure. You know, that sort of thing.
Insensitive jokes are far more important, apparently.

I was concerned that you might be adopting that position. Which you're perfectly at liberty to do, don't get me wrong. I'd just personally rather you didn't. But as I say, my wants and desires shouldn't affect your course or choices.

I suppose that the reason why I didn't understand the meaning of sjw you were using is that I couldn't understand how would it even apply to that strip.
(If it puts your thoughts to rest, I don't really think that those stale blonde jokes are sexist. It was just a random stupid discussion that I invented for this strip only.)

I mean, the point of this comic was just to show that not only people often blow things out of proportion when it comes to freedom (a complaint on the internet being treated as the murder of the concept of freedom itself) , but sometimes "freedom losses" are simply concessions people do in the name of preserving equality and fraternity. Not always, sure, but often enough that it does merit bringing those two to the discussion, if only to make sure they don't apply.

------

(About 'focusing on real problems': war, corruption, crumbling infrasctructures, insensitive jokes, abundance of white male leads on games, all of those things are just symptoms of 'real problems', but not the problems themselves. The real enemy we are fighting is the fact that we, as humans, often choose to attain short-term selfish gains instead of focusing in long-term collective gains. We are ready to fight the whole world when our feelings are hurt, but when we hurt other people's feelings, we often aren't willing to spare even a minute to apoplogize for the hurt. We put our pride over the logical solution to a problem. Those are very real problems, with a thousand faces, and ANY form of fighting them is welcome and worthy, however small they may be. In the end, it doesn't matter if you are fighting only and exclusively to make your parents more GLS-friendly or if you are fighting against a corrupt CEO of a big corporation. Every person fights the symptom they can.)

I think we have a slight miscommunication here. When I say SJW, I don't mean feminism. Not exclusively anyway. SJWs encompass a vast array of petty whiners, ranging from the BlackLivesMatter people, to the people still complaining about Daniel Tosh.

My initial reaction to this comic was one of suspicious dread. I was HOPING you weren't taking it the SJW route. I'm sorry, but I don't consider that hurting someone's feelings in a vague and arbitrary, especially an accidental, way, is something we need mass protests and internet backlash about, as described in this comic.
If someone comes to me and makes some off-colour comment about me being a foreigner, I don't go moaning about it on twitter, demanding a safe-space where legions of eager white knights will rise up to start hash tags about my so-called oppressor.

In the same vein, I'm not going to make a stink, or condone anyone else doing so, for raging and storming about blonde jokes.

And I'm sorry, but the way things are going now, freedom of speech IS being threatened. Things like the CancelColbert furor, or the Mizu campus protests, the BlackLivesMatter movement, and numerous other similar incidents, are a growing threat to free speech.

If I made a joke right now about you being South American, and you didn't like it, then your perogative is to ignore me, or bare with it. The same applies to me if you want to make some joke about me being a white, bisexual, English, igtheist, whatever other label. If I don't like it, and you aren't willing to stop, then it's my job to leave, or deal with it. Because I can't make you stop through threats or physical violence. I can tell you to fuck off, retaliate on your level, or you on mine, but starting a crusade about it is going too far.
I'd agree that if a SUSTAINED level of insults and intent to wound were being leveled would be uncalled for, and worthy of condemnation. But not harmless mistakes that people are literally choosing to take offense to. And blonde jokes fall under that category.
